Spanish Dual Language
Spanish Dual Language Program
The Dual Language Program at P.S. 506 is a form of bilingual education in which students are taught literacy and content in two languages. The student population include both native English speakers and English Language Learners. Our dual language program begins in Kindergarten and extends through fifth grade. The goal of our program is to foster bilingualism, biliteracy, enhanced awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity and high levels of academic achievement through instruction in two languages. All our dual language classes use the home language (the language other than English) for 50% of the instructional day. The home language and English are used equally throughout the program Each year a new kindergarten cohort is organized. Meetings are scheduled during the year to share pertinent information regarding the dual language program and to allow parents to ask questions and network with each other.
